Opening your footage
SentryCam reads the footage your Tesla records to USB. It takes about a minute.
- 1Safely eject the USB drive from your Tesla and plug it into your Mac.
- 2Open SentryCam and, when prompted, choose the top-level TeslaCam folder on the drive.
- 3Switch between Saved, Recent, and Sentry and pick a moment by date and time. Scrub, export, or delete as you like — then eject the drive safely.
What is SentryCam?
A Mac app for watching and managing the dashcam and Sentry Mode footage your Tesla records to a USB drive. View all four cameras in sync, scrub through clips, export a moment to a single video, and clean up footage you no longer need.
What do I need to use it?
A Mac and the USB drive your Tesla records to. Eject the drive from your car, plug it into your Mac, and point SentryCam at the TeslaCam folder. You don’t need an account or an internet connection.
How do I open my footage?
When SentryCam launches it asks you to choose a folder. Select the top-level TeslaCam folder on your USB drive — not one of the subfolders inside it. SentryCam then reads your Saved, Recent, and Sentry clips.
What's the difference between Saved, Recent, and Sentry?
These mirror the folders your Tesla creates. Saved clips are events you saved with a tap or honk, Recent is the rolling dashcam buffer, and Sentry holds clips triggered by Sentry Mode.
How does exporting work?
SentryCam stitches all four camera angles for a moment into a single video laid out in a grid, with a choice of resolutions. The finished file is revealed in Finder when it’s done.
Can I delete clips from the app?
Yes. You can remove a single clip, an entire event, or all saved clips at once. Empty folders left behind are cleaned up automatically. Deletes move files to the Trash, so always eject the drive safely afterward to avoid corrupting it.
Does any of my footage leave my Mac?
No. SentryCam reads directly from your drive and works entirely on-device. There are no accounts, no servers, and no tracking. See the privacy page for details.
